We are entering a new era marked by Europe’s energy independence from Russian fossil fuels, and this House has led that effort from the very beginning, for which I thank you. Your commitment has delivered real results. Thanks to REPowerEU, Russian gas imports—both LNG and pipeline gas—have fallen from 45% at the start of the war to 13% today. Coal imports have dropped from 51% to zero, and crude oil imports have decreased from 26% to just 2%. Together, these achievements mean that Europe is on track to phase out Russian fossil fuels permanently and for good.
